Most home watch companies are privately owned companies or sole proprietorships and the services offered vary from company to company. Home Watch Services are designed to maintain and inspect the homestead in the absence of the owners. This service is critical here in Southwest Florida with a large number of homeowners that have a second home or alternate homes in other locations throughout the country or the world. When a house is left vacant, the risks increase for issues to arise from water, mold growth, home invasion, insect infestation, and general deterioration of the property inside and out.
Home Watch is a service that encompasses both inspection and communication. We will visit your home on a weekly, bi-weekly or customized schedule. While at your nest, we inspect the exterior of the house, including the yard, siding, roof, lighting, windows and doors for damage or vandalism. Junk mail and fliers are removed from the mailbox to keep the house from looking empty. Inside, the toilets, sinks, and showers are run to check for leaks and other problems. All major household systems are tested to make sure everything is operating as it should. Blue Jay Home Watch will then inform you of any issues or concerns that exist.

We check your property and identify problems or potential problems that can occur while your property is vacant. Southwest Florida has an impressive and formidable collection of private estate communities and condominium communities with many seasonal residents. This is a trendy lifestyle choice for retirees and semi-retired people who enjoy the seasonal changes of their northern residences in the spring, summer and fall months and the ideal Southwest Florida climate in the winter; affectionately known as “snowbirds” make the annual trek to Southwest Florida around Thanksgiving and typically return to their northern enclaves sometime around Easter.
It is reassuring to many to know that someone will “keep an eye” on his or her home while he or she is away. Many people arrange to have someone perform weekly visits. This service is an inexpensive “insurance policy.” However, special care must be taken when choosing a service provider to be sure that the person or company has a reputable background, and that person has been adequately trained in home inspections of this nature. With our service, the homeowner contracts to have their house inspected in their absence to ensure that there are no signs of leaks, insect or pest problems, security system alerts, or other visible maintenance needs. A complete interior and exterior inspection of the home is conducted with close attention paid to the proper operation of the mechanical systems including air conditioning, pool and spa equipment, and plumbing and electrical systems.
This is a hazardous proposition on several levels.
Your lovely neighbor, let’s call him John, while a nice guy and more than willing to take care of your property while you are away, is not trained or probably does not have any background on what to look for when at your property. If an issue were to arise, he may not notice it or know how to resolve it in the best way possible. Besides, he might stop by once in a while, but not do a detailed interior and exterior inspection weekly to catch those problems early before they turn potentially tragic.
Blue Jay Home Watch, a professional home watch company, makes your home inspection is our top priority. We will arrive when we say we will be there and do what we say we will do, every time!
An alarm company monitors entry into your home or fire alarms, but they do not “watch” for potential problems that can occur due to broken pipes, mold, pests or vagrants. We identify those problems or the possibility of their occurrence and notify you for guidance.
Most neighborhood watch programs are passive by nature and do not provide the level of engagement with your property that Blue Jay Home Watch delivers. We will check your property’s interior and exterior in far more detail than you can expect from a neighborhood watch program.
